Raging Falcon STEPHEN PERKINS Books

Raging Falcon does not lack detail, complexity, and magic woven throughout. This is not the first novel I have read by this author and I must say that I’ve enjoyed it as much as Escape to Death. However, it must be pointed out that this is not for light reading. Readers must be prepared to invest time in keeping details, characters, events and interactions straight. Perkins inserts considerable detail in every aspect of the novel, which lessens the burden of the aforementioned task. Romance, drama, action and other elements are featured heavily throughout the novel; the themes also undermine the institution of religion. If a reader would be offended by this, I would suggest (as others have) avoiding this book.
Other than simple grammatical errors, fragments and similar issues that could be corrected (and were a bit distracting as someone with a strong education in English grammar), this book was very much worth the read and I definitely recommend it.

Raging Falcon STEPHEN PERKINS Books Reviews

Stephen Perkins’ second book Raging Falcon was a great read. It’s a book that combines the genres of sci-fi and psychological all in one thrilling package. The narration jumps around in the timeline; from past to future. It can feel a little sporadic at times and difficult to follow but the suspense kept me interested.

The characters are well developed and grab your attention. The lead character is Jim Keogh. Jim tells us his father Major Stacey Keogh’s story. He’s a strong man who has faults yet inspires me to use my own strength for good. The Major was given magical powers and is obviously a member of the military. Like you would expect, he uses his powers against others (including his own son) and even places him in prison for 50 years.

There were enough plot twists to keep me engaged. There were a couple of points where I re read a portion of the book. The changing timeline made me lose track a couple of times. I enjoyed the story so didn’t mind having to find my place.

I love how it discusses topics around government power and the larger plans to manipulate those in positions of power. It definitely made me think of current world events. The power of manipulation is real and used every day to control people. It’s important that we are all aware of that and avoid being caught in another’s agenda.

Since the book includes mature topics like murder, sexual scandal, and strong language it should be read by an adult audience.
Great imagination and storytelling by the author. This book should be made into a movie. It is unique and different from anything I have ever read. The author builds this incredibly interesting dystopian society. America and democracy died and the population had to be trimmed for sustainability reasons to create balance in nature. The book begins in 2063, with us meeting Old Jim Keogh who is in jail. He begins to narrate a story to the prison guards. Its starts little slow but once you flash back and get to know the back-story and characters, it is amazing.

Flash back to 2011, It starts with the events that the government uses to manipulate society in order to control the masses. We learn about how the whole world deteriorated to such levels ….I got chills! Black magic, secret societies, terrorism, false flags, psychological warfare….you name it. If you are into politics, you will love this book. Especially in this, times when you might worry that people are gullible. It is a thought provoking book; somethings in the book was so scarily plausible that I had to take a break to just think about it. I never imagined black magic could be used in that context. The book will generate great conversations and discussions for a sociology class or book club. Definitely, a book that stays with you long after reading.

This is the type of book you would enjoy in a reread because there is just so much to absorb! Two thumbs up!

This is my first Stephen Perkin’s book. Looking forward to checking out his other stuff.
Author Stephen C. Perkins’ three gripping stand-alone novels and mystery thrillers, Raging Falcon, American Siren, and Escape to Death, have steadily gained popularity with both YA and adult readers alike. Raging Falcon was published 16 November 2016.

Perkins is not only a novelist, but also a songwriter, free thinker and adventurer. We read about the following in Raging Falcon

The blackest of magic; deadlier than bullets; more destructive than bombs., more frightening than a terror attack. Sorcerers are disguised as military officers ensure a bleak future for mankind with terrifying psycholigical operations. When the war on terror destroys the provincial innocence of a small New England town, two young lives will never be the same.

Background

The CIA has controlled the American media for decades, through a program begun back in the late nineteen-sixties, called ‘Project Mockingbird’. This project used blackmail of corporate news executives, and even planted agents disguised as journalists right inside the bowels of every major news room. The agency gained an unassailable advantage in becoming the victors that rewrote American history. Orwell was indeed prophetic-whoever controls the past, controls the future!

When the author conceived Raging Falcon, he imagined a completely independent spy agency taking proxy control of the US government through blackmail, covert tactics, and political and military espionage. The author createdthe ‘Blue Jasmine Group’ that specializes in what is called counter-intelligence, the craft of psychological operations.

In Raging Falcon, all the world is like a stage filled with ‘crisis actors’, professional revolutionaries, props and stage directors. The public never suspects or questions that the events of American history may be a scripted melodrama-like some Hollywood movie. They never suspect that the tragic headlines of the day-Sandy Hook massacre, Boston bombing, might be staged military drills, reported as actual events!

This, in turn, brings up a frightening scenario for one to reflect What if, all the ghastly terror events, including 9/11, were not what they appeared to be? What if, the world isn’t really the violent place portrayed on television-that it is, contrary to manipulated public perception, peaceful. What if the alleged terrorists, ISIS, al-Qaida, were merely enemies not real, but imagined, cooked up by the counter-intelligence brain trusts housed in Langley, Virginia?

However, Raging Falcon isn’t all about political and military espionage. In fact, there is a taboo romance-love triangle. Larissa Ustinov, like James Bond, using seduction to manipulate. But, she conducts an ongoing torrid affair with the not so happily married ‘Iron Major’ Stacey Keogh. And, with perhaps her maternal instincts getting the best of her, she falls in love with the Major’s young son, Jim.
All this, in combination with a cast of complex characters, living in the mythic struggle of good versus evil, make Raging Falcon an epic drama of betrayal, spiritual transcendence, and ultimately, moral redemption.

One man-sorcerer disguised as solder-will forever alter American history with BLACK MAGIC.

In the 21st century wars are won in the mind rather than on battlefields. Major Stacey Truman Keogh, a specialist in psychological operations, is both ambitious and evil, a terrorist with esoteric magical powers disguised in military uniform, willing to sacrifice anything-his family, his only son, even the operatives under his command-to not only script American history, but to gain proxy control of the US government. In the end, will he use his magical powers in the service of good, to gain some measure of redemption-can a miracle save the only son he ruthlessly betrayed, so long ago? What can you expect if telepathy is used, minds are probed, personalities are altered ?

"Decades ago, when America died, and the regional global unity councils took over, it was decided mankind had to be trimmed, then shaped into sustainable order, in balance with nature.

"Stirring into a sudden gale, the wind howled like a discordant orchestra’s wild crescendo, ripping through fallow forest’s sad desolation and onward, shearing the broken husks of once proud suburban homes. “This was once the home of the raging falcon,” the vision recalled. For an instant, the mind crackled like the icy autumn gusts. “If I allow my immortal voice to carry with the Mariah wind,” she (Laurie) wondered. “Will Jim still hear me?”

It is 2063 at the New Salem Enrichment Centre is, and where Jim resides. If evil persists, global sustainability will not prevail. Old Jim is on the unsustainable list. Protected for some reason. Humans outside the centre seldom reach the age of 24.
“Oh, well, no one lives forever,” old Jim thought. Over the long decades, since his conviction for the murder of Laurie Nelson, the world had drastically changed. Global unity had replaced democracy."

“I’ve been lucky, much luckier than most, I suppose,” Jim finally acknowledged. “Nowadays, rarely does anyone on the outside make it past twenty-four. Majority of youth die in prisons, just like this. They’re either jailed for ‘crimes against ‘Holy Gaea’ or declared ‘unsustainable’ by the global unity councils.”

Warden Howards seemed to be the sole enrichment center regular human contact in existence. Everyone speculated it was Warden Howard who kept old Jim well past the sustainability threshold, trotting him out to speak to the people before the cameras out in front of the facility, always accompanied by the two familiar guards, eloquently detailing how state “re-education and enrichment” systems were being managed for great public benefit.

Even the enlightened Age of Aquarius (2011), there are still secrets left unrevealed? What is the story around Laurie' s murder? With that background you can prepare yourself for other secrets the lowly prison guard kept ; fearful secrets if merely whispered, could mean the destruction, or perhaps transcendent alteration of the entire world.

Jim

Longingly, he gazed at his own freshman picture from Danvers high, right next to his cherished love Laurie Nelson. “Somehow, even though I’m going to die,” a determined Jim thought, “Maybe there’s a way I can make it back to Danvers, one more time!”

Straightening his lanky frame, he looked around, thinking of the Warden’s true motivations, keeping him alive, gifting him with his own personal solitary quarters. “Good behavior had paid off for the raging falcon,” Jim thought. “But now, I might as well finally tell them!” “My father was indeed a Magus, an illuminated brother of the Holy Rosicrucian Jesuit order. I was just his tool. As a sorcerer disguised in a military outfit, my father used everyone in his elaborate tricks. And many never knew, until it was too late.”

This was good old Jim Keogh, the only detainee at New Salem Regional ‘Enrichment’ Center with an immaculate record. In his own way, Jim had become the ray of light to all the young prisoners, and to society at large on the outside.

The author takes the reader back to 2011.

“The Age of Aquarius is here. As Lord, High Priest, reigning monarch of our cherished and holy Jesuit order, I have a most important message to impart. As the secret rulers of mankind, we must make the world come together. In this new age, wars are won in the mind rather than battlefields.

Black magic is control over human consciousness, to mass manipulate emotional energy. And whomever wields this weapon effectively, rules over the minds of mankind! We must make them think their world is plunging into chaos, so that we may then introduce our new order of global unity.

“The masses do not realize the world has been controlled by the very same since the emergence of Babylon. Only now, our secret dominance shall be made known to all. General Thaddeus Alistair McCann, and his protégé Major Stacey Truman Keogh, two powerful magi disguised as military officers, have pledged to help us. These men know the secrets of illusion, age-regression, of telepathy, and other secrets of the magi’s dark arts. They will skillfully concoct two psychological operations, one in Connecticut, the other in Boston. The world shall be our stage."

“Now in this new age, we can change the political landscape and public perception much more effectively, with simulated victims, and virtual violence, the mere appearance of apocalypse. With the destruction and reshaping of the pale human mind in precarious distress, we shall achieve our great work."

"Clarksville had always been steeped in mystifying darkness. Born of sorrowful desolation, the darkness harbored grand mysteries. With the sun perched at the meridian, esoteric signs indicated soon all would be revealed, the power to mold men’s fragile hearts, the raging falcon unleashed.

Book at end Where the tale is driven to

Laurie looked at Jim, and suddenly, though for a moment things seemed surreal, recognition finally struck like a hammer. “Laurie,” old Jim sprang from his seat. “How could it be?”

Laurie

“I was on the run for many years, until I had plastic surgery to hide my identity. Oh, and I used my knowledge to age regress, of course!”
Blasts of light pierced the roof of the garage, mirror of starry sky splitting into tiny fragments. The world and everything in it had turned to a vast ocean of light beams, scurrying all at once like mad insects to an unknown destination.

Soon, Jim was wandering in a familiar wood, the smell of autumn from a time long ago enveloping the senses. “Susie…?” Astonished eyes fell on the stunning vision still young and fresh, angelic and eternal. He was now wearing the clothes of his youth, the bright red soccer cleats, the insignia of the raging falcon embroidered on the bright blue soccer sweat suit, world blooming in stellar colors of maroon, azure and gold.

Joining hands there was no need to speak, voices carried by the Mariah wind. For a time, they embraced, and a vast swirling portal appeared, cosmic entrance into the awareness. An odd mélange of hermaphroditic voices blared forth YOU ARE POSSESSED OF CORRECT INFORMATION…PLEASE ENTER!

"Together they plunged in, the two finally becoming one. In seemingly an instant, they lived seven centuries, lifetimes filled with glorious adventure, sometimes heroes, sometimes villains, but always together. Now weightless in a euphoric rush, they floated amidst a panorama of stars without aid of bodies. Here, amidst burning galaxies and fields of celestial wonders, the mystery of god was revealed, a universe in perfect balance, eternal alchemical romance. In a tidal explosion of light and sound, the three-dimensional world abruptly materialized."

What else can I say? Super wonderful.
